Frequently asked questions
Do listed buildings need permission for restoration?
Yes. Works on listed buildings start only with survey, restitution and restoration projects approved by the regional Conservation Board, and are carried out in line with those projects and board decisions.
What should I send to get a quote?
Use the quote form to send the building’s location, a few photos and a short description of the work. Mention any approved projects; we will get back to you shortly.
How does the conservation board approval work for a listed building?
First a measured survey is prepared, followed where needed by restitution and restoration projects. These are submitted to the regional Conservation Board, and works begin once approved. If conditions on site differ from the project, a new application is made.
I don’t have an approved project yet. Where do I start?
Send us the building’s location and a few photos. We inspect it on site and go through its condition, listing status and the steps required with you.
Do you also restore older houses that are not listed?
Yes. We also repair, strengthen and renew unlisted traditional buildings while keeping their character. Permits differ from listed buildings, and we help with the documents the municipality requires.
How is the cost of a restoration determined?
Cost depends on the building’s size and condition, the materials (stone, timber species, plaster), craftsmanship details and project requirements. After an on-site survey we prepare an itemised quote.
How long does a restoration take?
It depends on the scope, the season and approvals. A single ceiling or balustrade may take a few weeks, while restoring a whole building can take months. We share a work schedule with our quote.
What is kündekari?
Kündekari is a traditional woodworking technique in which small pieces of timber are fitted into each other, without nails or glue, to form geometric patterns. It is used on ceilings, doors and minbars, and we apply it in our ceiling, door and minbar work.
What is a “sarhoş çıta” ceiling?
A timber ceiling common in traditional Turkish houses, where battens are laid in crossing, broken lines to create a lively pattern, usually with a carved ceiling rose at the centre.
Which timber species do you use?
Depending on the project and the building’s original material we use solid timbers such as pine, Scots pine, oak and walnut. On listed buildings we follow the material set out in the approved project.
Can I have a ceiling or balustrade from your models page made for my home?
Yes. Press “Request a quote for this model” on the model’s page and the form will include the model. We adapt, make and install it to fit your measurements and space.
Do you do stonework and masonry repair?
Yes. We build natural stone walls, replace stones, renew joints, repair arches and frames, and make marble and stone fountains.
Do you work outside Ankara?
We are based in Altındağ, Ankara. We also consider projects outside Ankara depending on their scope; just state the location in the quote form.
Do you work for public institutions?
Yes. We have carried out restoration, landscaping and stonework for public institutions and municipalities. See our experience and certificates pages.
Do you also do landscaping?
Yes. Around buildings we lay stone-paved paths and kerbs, turf and planting, garden walls and general landscaping.
Do you offer maintenance support after completion?
We share care recommendations for timber and stone surfaces when the work is finished, and you can contact us any time for later maintenance or repairs.
